NJ City's Bill Aims To Provide Legal Services For Tenants

A bill to be introduced in Jersey City aims to use fees from new real estate developments to fund affordable housing and legal services for tenants.

"Landlords almost always have access to legal representation in court, drastically tilting the scales in their favor," Tache said. "It is important to us that this program is universal so time and energy can be spent directly delivering service, not determining eligibility. We also see the purpose of organizing tenants to build power and self-advocacy so everyday, working people are empowered to fight back against injustice, starting in their homes."
